The first mention of Hempstead Forge is in White's Directory of 1836 and the last time is in Kelly's Directory of 1937, although the forge was almost certainly in operation before 1836 and possibly after 1937. The last horse recorded as being shod was in 1935. |

6th January 2007 - Ena Roy of the The Forge died in her 95th year. Born at Great Snoring where her father was a wheelwright she trained as a nurse at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. She was a ward sister at Kelling and Cromer and ended her working life as Sister-in-Charge at Gresham’s Sanatorium. She lived at the working forge with her husband Jack. |
