In the 1871 census, Elizabeth Middletonr, a widow aged 53 and born in Hackford, was living at Court Green, working as a housekeeper for Charles Brighten, a 74 year old widower farmer. In the 1881 census, John Middleton aged 35 was listed as being married to Sarah Middleton née Pointer, aged 36, living with their daughter Mary Maria, aged 6, on the Plumstead Road in Hempstead. In the 1891 census, John Middleton aged 45 was listed as being married to Sarah Middleton aged 46, living on the Plumstead Road in Hempstead. In the 1901 census, Sarah Middleton was listed as a 56 year old widow living with her 5 year old granddaughter Constance. Mary Maria Ward née Middleton was the daughter of Sarah Middleton and was probably born at 3 White Horse Cottages. |
